The All Powerful God

A few weeks ago, Hayden and I went to Niagara Falls to celebrate our 10th anniversary. I knew that the Falls would be beautiful, but WOW! Beautiful doesn’t even begin to describe the American and Horseshoe Falls.

After a bumpy flight and an hour and a half wait on the shuttle to take us to our hotel, I was beginning to wonder if we would ever make it. We finally arrived and checked into our hotel. The view from the hall window was even amazing. As we walked out we were surprised, but not stunned by the power of the wind rising up between the high-rise hotels. This was my first reminder of what a powerful God we serve.

The next morning we saw the falls up close from the Maid of the Mist boat deck. Without the protection of the blue slicker, we would have been soaked. The amount of water pouring over the falls was mind-boggling, 150,000 gallons per second. Imagine that much water never turning off. As I think about it right now I can’t help but see the parallel of God’s power being turned on all the time. It has no starting point or stopping point. He is all-powerful all the time.

1 Chronicles 29:11-12 says this, “Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours…In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.”

Do you need some of God’s power to handle the circumstances of your life today? Are you drowning trying to do this life on your own? Turn to the God who can save you and work through you to accomplish anything.  For, Jeremiah 32:17 tells us, “Ah Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and out stretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Ephesians 1:19 tells us that God has “incomparably great power for us who believe.”

The next time you see a picture of Niagara Falls be reminded that God is able to do all things in His mighty power.

This fall the ladies of Pitts Baptist Church, Concord, NC invite you to join us as we begin to study the names of God. We will use Mary A. Kassian’s book Knowing God by Name as our primary text. The study will be offered on  Thursday mornings at 10:00 beginning Sept. 23rd and Monday nights at 6:45 beginning Sept. 27th. Email me for more information if you live in the Concord area. If you live far away,  join us here to discuss the book. Week three is specifically focused on God’s names of power! I look forward to seeing you.
