According to my kids, the Super Mario Brothers video game by Nintendo, ROCKS! They, along with their dad, completed the eighth world’s large castle and rescued Princess Peach the other night. They were pumped, but imagine their excitement when they discovered that there was a surprise, secret world nine.
That is what getting into God’s Word is like to me. Just when I think I know enough about a scripture, I study it a little more and learn something totally new. I especially enjoy it when I am not expecting to notice anything new and then POW! something jumps out at me. God’s Word is packed with action, romance, mystery, and suspense. It has everything today’s reader is looking for in a book. Yet, the Bible is far from just a book. In Hebrews 4:12 the Bible is described as, “living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
As we look into wrapping up another year and/or another present, consider passing on the 2nd greatest gift God has given us. For it contains the story of His first greatest gift. Buy a Bible for someone you love or for a stranger. Give the gift of God’s Word this year.
Here are some ways you can do just that:
Buy a Bible for a soldier at your local Christian bookstore. Lifeway, Family Christian Stores, and some others will mail it for you. Also, check out www.americanbible.org/DonateToTroops in order to send Bibles to our military men and women.
Go to www.wycliffe.org and make a donation to have God’s Word translated into a new language. This will allow others to read His life-giving Word in their native tongue.
Get online and purchase one for a friend or download an app for yourself.
There is no great gift than God’s love and it is expressed so eloquently through His Word.
Merry Christmas!
