Not only are we chosen to be holy, but we are also called to be holy. (1 Corinthians 1:2) We are to “be holy, because I (God) am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16 and Leviticus 11:44) The passage from Leviticus is instructing the people of Israel to consecrate themselves. It “denotes what is intrinsically sacred and distinct (even opposed to) what is common.” (Key Word Study Bible) To be holy means that we are to be different or separate. Getting closer to God should cause us to want to separate from the world.
It is Jesus’ holiness that saves us, yet God still calls us to be holy. What would God have you change in order to become more holy? Is it giving up some idol that you have made? Changing your evening tv shows or the way you dress or judge others? Whatever it is the change will be worth it! I speak from recent experience. For the past two weeks every night instead of watching some mindless television I’ve been reading scriptures and writing down my thoughts. I have learned a few new things and been reminded of much from God’s Word. It has been a wonderful adventure for me thus far. Thank you for joining me for it. I pray that God blesses your day and that you will draw closer to Him!
