Seeking Wise Counsel

Too often when seeking God’s purpose for our lives, we seek people’s opinions. Let me warn you, if you should choose to share what God is calling you to do then be prepared you may run into everything from out right opposition to complete misunderstanding. Occasionally you will share with someone who God has already spoken to about the issue. I remember my brother calling one night and telling me that he thought God wanted him to go to China. He just wasn’t sure how to tell our mom. Later that same night Mom called and said, “I think your brother is supposed to go to China.” Talk about preparing a person.

Before sharing with someone ask yourself:
1. Do they already pray for me?
2. Are they making God honoring decisions for their lives?
3. Are they known as wise?
4. Have they given me good advise before?

Sometimes we just want someone to listen to us and pray for us. If this is where you are then make sure your counsel knows that you are seeking prayer not opinion. It is hard to discredit a person’s valued opinion unless it goes against God’s. You will know if it does. Just make sure you are willing to go with God’s. His is always right!
